Lydia Juliana MAYO

October 10, 2006

Lydia Juliana Mayo born Nov. 5, 1924 in Czechoslovakia, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2006 in Mission at the age of 81. Lydia was predeceased by her beloved husband George in 2004. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Sandra (Stephen) Collyer, Brenda Nieboer, Noel Mayo and Gordon Mayo; by her grandchildren, Teresa, Byron, Erica, Heather, Scott and Amanda as well as her great granddaughter Lauren; extended family and friends. In her childhood, Lydia immigrated to Canada and settled on a small farm in McCreary, Manitoba. As a young woman she joined the CWAC in Regina, training in Vermillion and after serving 3 years, was discharged in Vancouver where she met the love of her life, George. Together they started a family in BC and then moved to Rosetown, Borden and Dundurn, Saskatchewan where she promptly set up hair salons in each of her homes. Upon their return to BC, Lydia opened Mission Beauticians on Main Street with her partner Blondie. After many years of hairdos, she set up the salon in her home where she enjoyed customers and their stories until retirement at 75. The family years involved camping and traveling throughout Canada and the US in a variety of trailers, exchanging them in later years for bus tickets to Reno. Lydia and George spent many memorable holidays including Newfoundland and traveling back twice to Czechoslovakia with her brothers, Joe and Walter and sister, Marie. She loved her family, her friends and had a zest and generosity for life that will truly be missed.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Woodlawn Mission Funeral Home, 7386 Horne Street, Mission BC on Thursday, October 19, 2006 at 2:00 p.m.
