Luise MUELLER

Luise died peacefully at Mount Tolmie Hospital on February 15, 2005, three days after her 103rd birthday. Born Eliza Winkler in Balgonie, NWT, she farmed with her husband, Ulrich, in Edenwold and Lumsden, Sask. After retiring from farming they moved to Mission, BC in 1961. She was resident in Victoria from 1996 until her death.

Luise was a passionate advocate of justice and joined the struggle for universal health care, farm marketing rights, and affordable housing through co-operative organizations, her church, political party, and women’s groups. She was a gracious host with an enduring sense of humour and the ability to touch the core of people and of issues.

Predeceased by Ulrich and two daughters: Marianne (Bill) Hartley, and Ruth (Norris) Elder, she leaves to mourn daughter Lotte Elias of Fort Langley and son Erich (Kathy) Mueller of Victoria, as well as 13 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at St. Andrew’s United Church in Fort Langley at a time to be arranged. Donations to honour her life may be made to the New Democratic Party, or the charity of your choice.
