October 25, 1926 - May 12, 2019
Lena Pankratz (Hiebert) passed quietly into the presence of the Lord, May 12, 2019 after a brief stay in the McKenney Creek Hospice, Maple Ridge.
Lena is predeceased by her husband Henry Frank Pankratz and siblings David, Abe, Kay and John. Lena will be greatly missed by her daughter Lydia Jenkinson, son Ron Pankratz , son-in-law Paul Jenkinson, grandchildren Dylan, Bernadette, Kirsten, Courtney, Jayda and 8 great-grandchildren. Lena will also be missed by Cuc (Daisy) Tran family including Henry, Linda, Ken, Tien and Sean as well as her remaining siblings Mary, Judy, Marge, Henry, spouses and in-laws.
Lena was born in Steinfelt, Molotschna, Ukraine coming to Canada in 1926 with her parents David and Mary Hiebert (Klassen) and two siblings Mary and David. Lena lived much of her adult life in the Fraser Valley as well as in Foam Lake, Saskatchewan. Lena worked in retail most of her life as well as at Menno Home and volunteered at MCC for over 30 years. Lena volunteered two half days a week on the cash at the Clearbrook MCC store, finishing her last volunteer shift in March 2019 at age 92.
Lena was a faithful follower of Jesus and in 1981, as part of Olivet Mennonite Church she housed Daisy Tran and her two children. This loving "family" relationship continued the rest of Lena's life and will be extended into the future by Ron and Lydia. Lena had many friends in the Christian community and was well known for her hospitality inviting many people home after church for tasty dinners and grandma's buns. Lena was also appreciated in her condo complex baking for other residents and hosting family dinners there until her illness.
Viewing will take place Saturday, May 25th, 10:30 - 11:30 am at Emmanuel Mennonite Church, Clearbrook Road, Abbotsford. The Memorial Service will begin at 1:30 pm with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Mennonite Central Committee (MCC).
