Jan 17, 1931 - Nov 1, 2017
The last chapter in the book of life of Laurence Mervyn Richard Halverson (Larry) came to a close on November 1, 2017. He had many chapters in his life. Highlights were being born on January 17, 1931, living on Quadra Island with his mother Pearl, father Martin and brother Vernon. They later moved to Vancouver where Larry graduated from Vancouver Technical School in 1948.

Larry served the citizens of Vancouver joining the Vancouver Fire Department in 1955 and retired with the rank of Captain in 1985. Married to his first wife Lillian, a daughter Laurie, son Ken, daughter Linda and son Lauren were born. He married his second wife Linda with step-daughter Theora, step-son Tony and step-daughter Kendra.

Larry and Linda had their dream log home built on Roe Lake in the Cariboo and also lived in many towns in BC. They were married for 38 years. Larry is survived by many grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and many good friends; his favourite cousin Evelyn turned 93 on November 1st.

Larry was a good person and a loving father and husband. He was very proud of each member of his wonderful family and of his career with the Fire Department. No one has a bigger heart than a fireman and Larry always said with a smile, "That's what it's all about."

The family wish to thank Dr. Warkentin and the staff at Abbotsford Hospital, the paramedics and Fire Hall No. 8 in Abbotsford for their compassionate care.

They would also like to thank Woodlawn Mount Cheam Funeral Home in Chilliwack. No service by request.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the BC Professional Fire Fighters Burn Fund.
