MACFARLANE, Keith Alan

Peacefully passed into the light-filled presence of Our Saviour on March 8, 2010. On January 10, Keith celebrated 87 wonderful years of life, 60 years of which were joyously together with his beloved wife, Jean. As the youngest brother in a large Chilliwack clan of 14 children, Keith has many departed family to welcome him on the other side. While blessed with good health for most of his life, he had quietly struggled with dementia for the last few years and was recently admitted to Abbotsford Regional Hospital due to a heart attack which was soon complicated by a series of debilitating strokes. Throughout his two-week hospitalized care, Keith retained his characteristic warmth, gentleness and infectious sense of humour. In his youth, Keith willingly and patriotically served his country in WWII as a Royal Canadian Air Force mechanic stationed in England, and sometime after the war worked for many years with B.C. Tel in Abbotsford. In retirement, when he wasn't occupied with his favourite pastime, wood carving, he and Jean, together with friends, traveled extensively throughout Europe and North America.

Throughout his long life, Keith permanently touched the hearts of all those he met and he will continue to be a special part in the lives of his immediate family and friends: particularly his devoted wife Jean; his daughter Diane and companion Russ; his son Alan and wife Bonnie; his son Ron and wife Anne Marie; his grandson Lee; his granddaughters Alycia, Ariel and Dana; and his sisters Phoebe, Renee and Jean. Sometime after cremation, a quiet gathering of close family and friends will be arranged to celebrate Keith's abundant life and dignified passing. Instead of flowers or gifts, his family feels that Keith would most want a kindness to be given to a person in need as a loving remembrance of him.
