Olson: Kathleen May

1909 - 2010

Kay Olson went home peacefully to be with the Lord on May 15, at the Menno Home in Abbotsford, BC, with family members at her side. We miss her, but we know she is now rejoicing in a far better place, and we will be reunited with her some day. She was predeceased by her husband Don Olson of Lloydminster, SK, and by her brother Jack Cridland of Kelowna, BC. She is survived by her two sons, Stan (Marijke) of Abbotsford and Ken (Marilyn) of Kamloops, BC; by four grandchildren, Philip (Fume), Eric, Karen (Luke) and Dave; and by other family members in Canada, the US, and Australia.

She was born and grew up northwest of North Battleford, SK. Before her marriage in 1940, she taught school in that area for ten years. Later she was on staff at Briercrest Bible College in Caronport, SK for nine years.

Much of her life was lived in Mission, BC and Vancouver. Her last few years were spent in Abbotsford at the Menno Pavilion and Menno Home, where she was always cheerful, viewing each day as "One day nearer heaven and home," and was always grateful, often saying "Thank you for everything you do for me."

A family grave-side service was held on May 19 in Burnaby, and a memorial service will be held at Emmanuel Mennonite Church, 3471 Clearbrook Road, Abbotsford, at 11:00 on Saturday, June 5, 2010. Special thanks to the staff of East 2 at the Menno Home for taking excellent care of her during these last three years. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to a charity of your choice.
