Katherine (Kay) Kroeker

November 17, 2004

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. II Timothy 4:7

Katherine (Kay) Kroeker (nee Thiessen) was born in Sask to Abram & Katherine Thiessen. The family moved to BC in 1939 & settled on Interprovincial Road on a dairy & berry farm. Kay met Nick Kroeker in 1947 & they married on May 7, 1949. They bought a small farm on No. 5 Rd, but eventually bought her father’s farm & settled in Sumas Prairie until 1969. 3 children were born during this period: Diane, Gary and Marlene. In 1970, Kay & Nick moved to McCallum Rd in Abbotsford, when they joined Central Heights Church. Kay was an avid & talented gardener and extremely creative. She was an active & involved member of Church, teaching Sunday School, working in the library and on the Festival Committee, and she created floral arrangements for the church for 25 years. In 1988 they moved to Arcadian Way. She loved her new home, growing flowers & gardening. She loved going for walks, nature & enjoyed hiking, camping & traveling. She had a keen mind and was always eager to learn something new. In March 2003, she was diagnosed with colon cancer. She attacked her cancer with determination & optimism, still knowing that her life was in God’s hands. After successful surgery, she battled back to health. In June 2004, Kay was diagnosed with terminal bone cancer. She faced her last days with dignity & grace. She never complained & was appreciative & thankful to all who cared for her. Kay passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on Wed, Nov 17, 2004 at 8:00 am. She leaves to mourn her husband Nick of 55 years; children Diane (John) Petkau, Gary (Rita) Kroeker, Marlene (Gary) Dirksen; only brother Abe (Anne) Thiessen; grandchildren Jennifer (Gerald) Dyck, Carmen Voth, Leanne Voth, Lauren (Thad) Williams, Katelin Dirksen, Brayden Dirksen; great-grandchildren Jesiah, Brycen and Milanne Dyck.

Our family wishes to thank the nurses & staff on 3 West at MSA Hosp, at Worthington Pavilion, and Cottage Hospital, & special thanks to Dr. Danescu. We would like to thank the family & friends for their prayers & faithful visits to Mom over the past 10 weeks. God bless. Graveside service will be on Tuesday, Nov 23rd at 11am at Maclure Cemetery, followed by a memorial service at Central Heights Church at 1pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Gideons.
