She is survived by her children Frieda Zalinko, Allen (Dorothy) Hiebert, Linda (Bruce) Lysack, and Sharon (John) Yokoyama, six grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; sister Agatha Hiebert and brothers Ben (Helen) Rempel and Jake (Elsie) Rempel, and many nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by husband Frank, brothers Bill Rempel and John Rempel, sisters Helena Friesen and Margaret Wiens; sister Susanna at age 3 and two brothers in infancy.

Katharine was the third of eight children growing up in the village of Rosenhof. At the age of 10 her mother died. She and her older sister learned to manage household duties and care for their younger siblings. In spite of numerous losses, her father remained steadfast in his faith and lovingly passed on his faith and values to his children, which continues to be passed on to the next generations. She married Frank in 1946 and moved to Abbotsford in 1947, where they raised their four children.

Katharine volunteered at the MCC thrift store and quilting group. She loved to read and had a heart for service to others. She was an avid supporter of peacemaking and social justice, both in the world and between people.

Her children would like to thank the staff at Menno Housing and Holmberg House Hospice for their kind care in her final years.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, August 2nd, 2016 at 2:00 pm at the Emmanuel Mennonite Church, 3471 Clearbrook Road, Abbotsford, B.C.
