JOSEPH OTTENBREIT

June 23, 2004

Joseph Matthew, born Febryary 22, 1925 in Dysart, Saskatchewan, passed away on June 23, 2004 after a courageous 2 year struggle with mesothelioma.

Joe served in the Royal Canadian Navy for 21 years, stationed in Victoria as a cook. While there, he met and married the love of his life, Joan (Remphrey) on Septmeber 5, 1953. Their 2 children Sharon and Ron were born in Victoria.

After a move to the mainland, Joe left the Navy and began a 15 year career as a food service officer in Correction Services at Oakalla. Upon his retirement, Joe and Joan became 'Snowbirds' and for 17 years they spent their winters in Bullhead City, Arizona, their home away from home. Joe is loved and will be missed by his wife Joan, daughter Sharon Vallance (Bob), granddaughter Becky; son Ron Ottenbreit (Teresa), grandsons Jason, Derrick and Ryan. As well, Joe will be missed by three sisters, one brother, one brother-in-law, many nieces and nephews, as well as his 'winter' family.

Thank you to Dr. Pauls and all the nursing staff from 3 West at MSA Hospital. You truly were angels. A very special thank you to Daljit Dhariwal for all his kindness and support during this difficult time.

Viewing will be held on Monday, June 28, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. in Woodlawn Funeral Home, 2310 Clearbrook Road. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 30 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Ann's Parish, 33333 Mayfair Street, Abbotsford.

No flowers by request. Donations to a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
