Joseph (Joe) Paul VINCENT

Joseph (Joe) Paul Vincent, age 88, passed away unexpectedly on August 14 in the Menno Hospital in Abbotsford, BC. He was born on April 13, 1918 in New Westminister, BC. He moved to be with his adoptive family in Abbotsford at the age of 10. Except for 2 years living in Kamloops, he spent his life in the Fraser Valley.

He married Dora Duplieux in 1941 and had 3 children: Raymond, Gerald and Janice. Joe later married Margaret Callaghan in 1971. Margaret’s 3 sons from her prior marriage, Len, Dan and Pat, came to know Joe like a father. Joe spent the last 10 years of his life cared for by his son Ray and Gloria, Ray’s wife. Joe loved his ever extending family of grandchildren and great grandchildren and cherished the time and fun they had together.

Careerwise, after a stint as a logger, Joe began his long career with B.C. Hydro digging holes with an old spoon shovel for 90 cents a day and concluded 33 years later with the responsibility of supervising for large power lines that spanned the Fraser Valley. A severe work injury brought him to early retirement in 1974. Though it set him back for a few years, his spirit and laughter rallied back. In his mid-40s and early 50s, when not working for Hydro, he and his family tended their farm on Star Road growing corn, raspberries and other produce for market.

Many folks may fondly recall Joe’s jovial, often teasing, nature. He was generous with his time and spirit to help in their times of hardship, often bringing needed food and other resources. His infectous smile and kindness spread wide and far throughout his lifetime.

Joe will be dearly missed by his son Ray Vincent and his wife Gloria and Joe’s daughter Janice Vincent and her partner Jim; his grandchildren and their partners: Joe Vincent and his partner Sue, Margarette Ann Blanchard, her first husband Brian and Margarette’s fiance’ Pete and Gerald Vincent and his wife Heidi; his grandchildren Jackie Blanchard, Jennifer Blanchard and Jasmine Blanchard, and Justin Vincent-Foglesong; the family who came to know and love him through his 2nd marriage: Len Callaghan, Dan Callahan and his wife Flo, and Pat Callahan and his wife Muriel; their children who know him as Grandpa; Carrie Swift and her husband Ron; Jodi Foss and her husband Chris; Neil Callaghan and his wife Ester: David Callahan, Jason Callaghan and Trish Callaghan and their collective 5 children who know him as their greatgrandpa: Jenna, Michelle, Alex, Carter and Liam.
