Celebration of Life of Josef Nigg

Josef's life began on October 1st, 1931 in Lucerne Switzerland. He spent his first sixteen years in the town of Hagersville with his family Father Hans Sr., Mother Lousie and older brother Hans Jr., working at their nursery on Lake Lucerne. The surrounding mountains and lake was his playground, spending time ski racing, sailing and swimming with his brother.

In 1948 the family emigrated to Canada settling in Abbotsford. They worked on various dairy farms with the intention of owning their own. Their dream came true when they bought a beautiful farm on Sumas Prairie in 1961. Joe worked the farm with his family and made many life long friends. Flying and sailing were his passion.

In 1961 he met and married Maralyn Leask. They were first introduced to each other at the Rod and Gun club when he politely gave her a lesson on how to hold a gun. It was love at first sight. The couple purchased the farm from Joe's family and worked it up until 2001.

Joe passed away on January 5th at home with his family at his side after a valiant battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife and three children, Sonya (Fritz), Joanne (Brad) and Kenneth (Toni) and thirteen grandchildren Kate, Hailei, Carly, Paige, Jillian, Alissa, Felicia, Sally, Lindsay, Sam, Nick, Jane and Anna.

Josef will always be remembered for his patience, kindness, dry humour and devotion to his family. A special thank-you to Val Dirks, Robin from palliative care and Nicole from Wee care. Joe requested no funeral.

The family will hold a private celebration in a few weeks.
