John William Laurence (Larry) SCRUTON

Larry passed, peacefully into the arms of the Lord, at MSA Hospital, his wife Norma and daughter Linda at his side. He was born in Prince Albert, Sask. and moved to Vancouver at an early age. Larry became an auto mechanic, and ran successful businesses in Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows. Larry had many interests and hobbies. He was a “Ham” radio operator, beginning in 1937, and spoke to people all over the world. He was an active member of the Clearbrook “Ham” radio club. Larry also loved gardening, sports, his computer and digital photography. He loved gospel and country music.

Larry was predeceased by ­mother Florence, father Bill, brothers Sterling, Jim, and sister Beth. He is survived by his loving wife Norma of nearly 68 years, their five children, Larry (Dawna) of Smithers, Linda (Larry) Fairbairn, of Burnaby, Sharon (Mike) Hilts of Victoria, Barbara Scruton of Coquitlam, Dan (Cheryl) of Ancaster, Ont., sister Doreen (Tony) Batten of Salmon Arm, sister-in-law Mary of Victoria, and many nieces and nephews. Larry was a loving, caring, ­husband, father, and grandfather to 12 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren. He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed. His pal “Casey” the puppy will miss him also.

A family gathering in celebration of Larry’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Heart & Stroke foundation or the Lung association.
