It is with great sorrow that the family announces the passing of John on Sunday, October 30, 2005 in his 84th year. Predeceased by his beloved wife Amy, he is sadly missed by his children Sharon, Halifax, NS, Cathy (Jim Ellis), Burnaby, Beverly (Maurice Morden), Surrey, Gary (Alberta), Dawson Creek, John (Judy), Dewdney, Amy (Stan Smalley), Sandford, Ont. and Velma (Rene Rutten), Waikato, NZ. His 19 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren miss him.

John was the youngest child, born in Honiton, England in 1921 immigrating to Canada with his parents William and Edith Chard and his 4 siblings in 1926. He was predeceased by his parents and siblings, William, Mary, Frieda (Bill Mervyn) and Louis (Olga). The Chard family farmed in several areas of the Langley township finally settling in Aldergrove. John’s farm, named Joamy Farms was a long-time fixture on Fraser Highway until 1989 with the move to Dewdney. John was a veteran of WWII, member of Dairyland, long time member of the Otter Co-op and of the BC Jersey Breeders and a retired member of the Aldergrove Elks Lodge.

A memorial service will be held at Henderson’s Langley Funeral Home, 20786 Fraser Highway, Langley BC on Monday, November 7, 2005 at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of choice would be appreciated.
