John Sr. POOL

November 24, 2004

John Pool Sr., late of Abbotsford, BC passed away peacefully in his sleep on November 24th, 2004 at the age of 92.

John married his wife Geertje on May 5th, 1937, in Ommen, Holland.

In 1947 John and Geertje, immigrated with three young children to Lacombe, Alberta. Two years later he bought quarter of land with ten cleared acres in Rocky Mountain House, Alberta. John and Geertje worked long hours clearing another 40 acres of bush in the next two years. But life across the beautiful Canadian Rockies with a lush green valley and milder temperatures became more attractive to the Pool family. In due time they moved to the Fraser Valley where John was in his glory by milking cows and farming the land.

Our “Grandpa” Pool will be remembered always for his many deeds of compassion. John’s children and immediate family watched John perform his very last deed of kindness last Tuesday evening when he, ever so feeble, so touchingly gave it all the strength he had left in him as he tried to wipe Grandmas’ tears away from her eyes.

We truly thank our Heavenly Father for granting us to know and enjoy the company of such a genuine kind person who’s life exemplified compassion, thoughtfulness, integrity and respect for others in all phases of living.

John is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Geertje Pool, and children John (Gertie) Pool of Abbotsford, Jennie (Sid) Byma of Abbotsford, Archie (Diane) Pool of Windsor, ON, and George (Claire) Pool of Abbotsford.

John had 11 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 am November 29th, 2004 at Gateway Community Christian Reformed Church, 1951 McCallum Road with Pastor Bert Slofstra officiating. Interment at Hazelwood Cemetery immediately following.
