In Loving Memory of JOHN VICTOR FARROW

Born on October 28, 1923 he passed peacefully into the Arms of his Saviour on December 27, 2016. John first saw the light of day in Calgary, but started his schooling in Prince George, BC, the family then moved to Burquitlam, BC where the family lived until they purchased the 110 Acre Dairy farm in Fort Langley, early 1948. John obtained a degree in Science and Agriculture from UBC and shortly thereafter met and married the love of his life, Jeanette Hunter, on June 16, 1948. They ran the dairy farm in Fort Langley, BC with his parents, and then moved to acquire a cattle ranch in Princeton, BC. After the loss of John’s father, John, Jean and their first two children came back to Fort Langley where they sold the dairy herd and maintained a beef herd. His family continued to grow with the addition of two more children, and John stayed busy with an additional job as Agricultural Manager at the P.N.E in Vancouver, BC. In 1968, John accepted a teaching position in the Animal Sciences program at the Northern Lights College in Dawson Creek, BC. He also became the head of the Agriculture Department at the college. In addition, he and his family operated a grain farm and cow-calf operation until 1983. After a major fire urged them to move south for a short term in China Valley near Chase, BC, John and his son bought a property in Pritchard near Kamloops, BC and ran a Feedlot and Hay operation until John’s retirement in 1999. Over the years, John kept up with the latest technology regarding agriculture, loved to travel, oil painting and spending time with his family. He was involved on many School, Bank Advisory, and Livestock Boards. He also faithfully served as a Scout Leader, Sunday school teacher, church board member, and with The Gideons International. Many will miss him as he touched numerous lives on both a professional and social level. Predeceased by his parents Francis and Kathleen, sisters Lurene and Mildred, and brother Alfred. John leaves in mourning his legacy: His wife of 68 years Jeanette; son David (Laura) Farrow of Kamloops; 3 daughters: Joanne (Richard) Marble of Dayton, WA; Susan (Art) Borne of Abbotsford, BC; and Frances (Doug) Weller of Gilroy, CA; as well as 7 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. A celebration of John’s life will be held at: 1:30 pm Friday, January 20, 2017 at Northview Community Church – West Court, 32040 Downes Road, Abbotsford, BC. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Gideons International. In the words of John’s favourite Irish prayer:

May the road rise up to meet you.

May the wind be always at your back.

May the sun shine warm upon your face;

the rains fall soft upon your fields,

and until we meet again,

may God hold you in the palm of His hand.
