Johannes “John” Dykstra passed away peacefully at Maplewood Home in Abbotsford on Sept. 6th, 2005 at the age of 86. He was predeceased by his loving wife Klaaske on Oct. 30, 2002. He was also predeceased by numerous brothers and sisters in the Netherlands.
John is survived by one brother Jitze in the Netherlands. He is also survived by sons Stuart (Jesse) of 108 Mile House, B.C., Peter (Jo-Ann) of Abbotsford, B.C., Jack (Dianne) of Summerland, B.C., 12 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
Dad was born in Friesland where he met mom and married. He served for a short time in the army before the German occupation. In the fall of 1951, the family of three immigrated to Canada, landing in Ontario, where they farmed and Dad worked in construction, mixing cement for the bricklayers. Then in June of 1965 the family of five moved to BC in a crowded VW bug. Here, he again worked in cement, but now as a bricklayer. Some of his work can still be seen around Abbotsford. In the mid 70’s Dad started working for Matsqui as part of the road crew, retiring in Jan. 1984.
We are proud of what you did for us Dad and the example you set.
