Johann (John) HOFER

December 14, 2006

Johann (John) Hofer of Mission, BC passed away December 14, 2006 at the age of 82 years after a brief battle with lung cancer. John was born on October 17, 1924 in Bruckmuhl, Austria and immigrated to Canada in 1955 where he settled in Kitimat, BC.

John was predeceased by his only child John in 2001.

John is survived by his loving wife Maria and daughter-in-law Mary; his grandchildren Mike (Jennifer), Debbie (Paul), Tina (Bryan) and great-grandchildren Harrison, Madeline, Jackson and Maya will always fondly remember him as “Opa”. He will be sadly missed by all including extended family in Austria and countless friends in Mission and Kitimat.

John was a man of great courage and integrity. He was selfless and always put his family first. His kindness and generosity were returned to him by the many friends and relationships he developed. John always believed in working hard, and that in doing so you would be rewarded.

John worked for Alcan in Kitimat until his retirement in 1980 when he moved to Mission to be closer to his family. In his younger years, he was an avid soccer player and skier who felt at home in the mountains. He also enjoyed “Oma’s cooking”, watching a good hockey or baseball game, playing cards and spending time with family and friends.

Thanks to Dr. Wong, the 2nd floor nurses and the exemplary staff at Christine Morrison Hospice for your great care and compassion.

No funeral by request of family. Donations may be made in John’s memory to the BC Lung Cancer Society or to the Christine Morrison Hospice at Mission Memorial Hospital.
