Joe OTTOM

November 29, 2004

Joe was born October 30, 1924 in Mozart, Saskatchewan. His parents were Frank and Annie (nee Bodnar) Achtimizchuk.

Joe had two sisters, Mary and Alice; three brothers, Dick, Mike and Bill. During the Depression, the older siblings worked for different farmers in exchange for room and board with a small allowance. At age 16, Joe came to Vancouver, BC where he worked in a shipyard until the end of the Second World War. Then he went to work in various logging camps for the next number of years. By 1959, at the age of 35, Joe bought a taxicab in Vancouver. During that time, a friend he had known from his days as a logger wanted to visit. As a result of that visit, Joe met the Lord in a dramatic way and accepted Jesus as his personal Saviour on April 20, 1959. Meeting the Lord created a passion in Joe’s heart and his lifestyle habits changed. He had the great joy of serving the Lord for the rest of his life until he died on November 29, 2004.

Two years after his conversion, Joe married Helen Rempel on May 27, 1961 whom he leaves to mourn. Joe is survived by four children: Gail (Rick) Suderman, John (Sylvia) Ottom, MaryAnn (Martin) Katzberg and Michael Ottom. He is also survived by eight grandchildren.

Joe will be missed dearly but there is hope that we will see him again some day.
