Jantje (Jannie PIJL

September 7, 2005

Jantje (Jannie) passed peacefully into the arms of her Lord on September 7, 2005 at Ebenezer Seniors Home in Abbotsford at the age of 85. She was predeceased in 1970 by Wiebren, her husband of 25 years, by her son Richard in 1977, and by her brothers and sisters.

She was born Jantje Postma on November 18, 1919 in Beetsterzwaag in the Netherlands. Married in 1944 to Wiebren Pijl, they immigrated with their children to Canada in 1956, settling first in Victoria and later in Vancouver. A longtime member of the Vancouver Bethel and later First Christian Reformed congregations, she moved to Ebenezer Home in Abbotsford as her declining health limited her independence.

She is lovingly remembered by her surviving children: Sipke (Lois), Sylvia (Jan) Van Vugt, and John (DellaRose); her nine grandchildren: Michael (Edith), Emily (Mark) Pijl Zieber, Lynda (Gary) Stevenson, Peter (Bronwyn) Van Vugt, Adrian and Wes Van Vugt, Ken, Caroline Faber, and Adrian Houser; her four great-grandchildren: Christopher, Maiya, Desiree, and Avril, and by many other relatives and friends in Canada and the Netherlands.

Friends are welcome at the family’s graveside service at Ocean View Cemetery in Burnaby at 12:00 a.m. on Monday, September 12, 2005. This will be followed at 2:00 p.m. by a Memorial Service at Vancouver First Christian Reformed Church, 2760 Victoria Drive. Both services will be officiated by Pastor Henry Numan.

Though family and friends mourn her loss, we rejoice together in the assurance that her faith and trust in the risen Lord kept her secure in the knowledge that we will meet again at Jesus’ feet.

The family wishes to express their thanks to the staff at Ebenezer Home for their kind and compassionate care, and for their shared faith.
