MARTENS

Jacob G. Martens passed away peacefully at the age of 95 on December 9. Ann, his wife of fifty years predeceased him in 1990 and his second wife, Betty in 2000. His children, Art Martens, Alvina Woods and Linda Edworthy will remember his kindness and conversations with him. His grandchildren Jesse, Nicola, Vivian, Jeremy, Amanda and James will miss his phone calls, letters and interest in their lives. Jacob's life was enriched by great grandchildren Brandon and Alexa. His second marriage blessed him with five stepchildren.

Jacob loved music, the bass fiddle in particular. When he could no longer play the bass at 92, he began lessons on the cello. He played with the Melody Strings Ensemble, enjoying the friendship and music.

Jacob was a skilled cat operator and developed a land clearing and landscaping business. His faith in God was central to his life. He was a founding member of Olivet Mennonite Church. He was also a founding member of what is now Envision Credit Union.

He valued the work of MCC and gave to their fund to feed hungry children. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Give Food Fund would be welcomed. Family and friends are invited to join in a celebration of his life Saturday, December 19, at 1:00 at Sevenoaks Alliance Church.
