VEER; Henry William

Henry William Veer was born on February 29, 1924 in Steinfeld, Russia, the first child of Wilhelm and Ageneta Veer. His family immigrated to Canada in October, 1926 and settled in the Hepburn, Saskatchewan area. It was at the Hepburn church that he met his future wife, Margaret Lepp. They were married on July 28th, 1946 in the South Abbotsford Church and celebrated 68 years of marriage prior to Margaret’s passing in October 2014. In 1949 Henry and Margaret bought a ten acre farm on Clearbrook Road. They farmed together for the next 42 years, growing raspberry crops and raising laying hens. They raised their three sons Ronald, Larry and Mark on the farm. The boys have many wonderful childhood memories of working and playing together on their trucks, tractors, and motorbikes. Dad was a very industrious worker, in the early farming years he worked out at a variety of jobs during the day and in the evenings and weekends independently built our house and the chicken barns. He was president of the Abbotsford Growers Co-op for 13 years. Dad was an accomplished photographer; he spent his retirement years digitizing his old 8mm movies and videos and making DVDs for us to cherish in the years ahead. He was a member of the South Abbotsford and served as church moderator for many years. Dad loved gospel music and enjoyed singing in church choirs and quartets. He had committed his life to the Lord as a teenager and sought to live a life pleasing to God. His faith sustained him in his last year during many health trials and he continually shared his faith and the hope of his eternal life to everyone he met in his care facilities. He is predeceased by his wife Margaret in 2014, brothers Bill and John, and great-grandson Riley Van Winkle. Henry is survived by his sons Ronald (Erna), Larry (Lois), Mark (Melody), six grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren and sister, Agnes Jeschke.
