HAMM, Henry John

January 20, 1925 - July 25, 2016


Henry (Hank) Hamm passed away peacefully at Peace Arch Hospital on July 25. He was born in Rosenwald, Siberia, USSR in 1925. Hank is survived by his wife Barbara, his son Jim, daughters Barbara Hill, Betty (Ray) Salloway, Marilyn Motut, his 1st wife Mary Hamm as well as 6 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He was the 2nd eldest of 9 children of Peter and Elizabeth Hamm of Abbotsford, BC.



Hank was a Second World War veteran and a local businessman. Hamm's Esso Service and Bell Automotive (an auto parts wholesaler) were a good part of his life's work. He later retired from BC Transit as a bus driver and he and his wife Barbara relocated to White Rock. Hank was the last surviving founding member of the Abbotsford Flying Club and Abbotsford International Airshow, where one of his passions was volunteering for the Air Show. As a pioneer in sport parachuting in the Fraser Valley, he participated in the first Air Show parachute jump.


Services will be held at Central Heights Church, 1661 McCallum Rd, Abbotsford, Monday August 8th at 11:00 am Reception to follow. Interment will be in the afternoon at Hazelwood Cemetery, 34070 Hazelwood Avenue, Abbotsford. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Mennonite Central Committee Relief.
