DUECK; Henry H.

Henry Dueck went to be with his Lord and Savior on May 13, 2016, at Tabor Home in Abbotsford. Born on September 27, 1927, in Namaka, Alberta, Henry was the 3rd of 11 siblings. When Henry was 6, his family moved to Ontario where they farmed fruit in the Niagara region. Henry was always passionate about education and persevered in his goals to finish high school and university. In 1950 he married his high school sweetheart, Mary Regehr. They spent the first year of married life in Germany where Henry had earned a university scholarship, then spent another year teaching in England. They continued these shared passions of travel and learning for more than 60 years, living and teaching in Ontario and California before retiring in Abbotsford. During retirement, Henry and Mary taught English in China and Russia. During their years spent in Russia, Henry chaired the board of St. Petersburg Christian University and was awarded an honorary doctorate from that institution in 2006. Henry was a wonderful example to his children of perseverance and dedication to Christian service. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Mary (Regehr) Dueck; children Theodore Dueck (Deborah), Karen Pennington (David), Christine Petkau (Brent); grandchildren Sarah Crant (Kevin), Amanda Dueck, Gregory Hallman (Genevieve), Michael Hallman, Amy, Gillian, Justin and Christina Pennington, Benjamin and Haley Petkau; 3 great-grandchildren and a number of siblings. Henry is predeceased by his parents, Henry J. Dueck and Katharina (Barg) Dueck, and two older brothers, Jake and John. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Tabor Home for their love and support for Henry. Your kindness will never be forgotten. A Memorial Service will be held at Bakerview MB Church on Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations made to Logos Canada, MCC or Tabor Home Society.
