Helen REMPEL

REMPEL, Helen

1907 – 2008

Helen was born October 20, 1907 in the Ukraine to Deitrich and Judith Klassen. She grew up in Melitopal, Berdyansk and Osterwick. She committed her life to Christ and was baptised. In 1927 she married Frank Rempel. They had 7 children; 2 of whom died in infancy. In 1943 their entire village was evacuated and moved to eastern Germany. With the rapid Russian advance, they, along with millions of others, became refugees. Soon after the war ended her husband miraculously found her and the 5 children. They both became even more dedicated in their Christian faith. After coming to Canada in 1949 they were very active in the Eden Mennonite Church. Our mother loved us and repeatedly reminded us that she prayed for us by name. A fall and broken hip on June 13 was the beginning of her end. We, her children; Helen and Jake Franz, Dietrich and Dorothy Rempel, John and Erika Rempel, Henry and Evelyn Rempel, Frank and Doris Rempel, with grandchildren and great grandchildren will miss her, but she is with Jesus her Saviour. Her funeral service will be held Thursday, July 3 at 11:00 a.m. at Eden Mennonite Church, in Chilliwack followed by burial at Greendale Mennonite Cemetery.
