June 12, 1928 - November 13, 2020
Hannah passed away November 13th, 2020 after a long battle with dementia and a short bout with Covid. Hannah was born on a farm in Beiseker, Alberta on June 12, 1928 to Jacob Schmidt and Anna (Schafer) Schmidt, into a family of seven children. She met and married Conrad (Bud) Notland and settled in Calgary to work and raise a family.
Hannah was very talented. She had a green thumb and loved to garden. She was musical and played the piano and violin growing up, and sang in duets, trios and choirs in her adult years. Mom had an artistic side and painted in oils and water colours and did many kinds of crafts. She also had a wonderful eye for design, whether in interior decorating or in how she dressed.
Mom always said she never had a job she didn't like, whether at the Bay in Calgary, the Miracle Mart in Montreal, selling real estate in Red Deer, or working in the kitchen at Western Pentecostal Bible College in Abbotsford. She loved people. She loved to go to work and see her friends. And mom loved Tuesday morning coffee with her Abbotsford lady friends.
Every community where mom and dad lived, they found a church to go to and always made good friends there. Mom loved her God and was faithful in doing her daily devotions. This area of her life was all important and shaped her as a person.
Most of all, Hannah was a good mother. She was an excellent cook and seamstress and made many beautiful clothes for us as children. She loved to help with homework involving artwork, sewing, or cooking. And she nursed us through all of our childhood illnesses in the most loving way.
Hannah was preceded in death by her parents Jacob and Anna, husband Conrad (Bud), her brothers Joe (Sophie), Harold (June), and Calvin, her sisters Beatrice and Alice (Jerry), her brothers in law Jim and Bryon, her sister in law Julie, and her niece Anne, and nephew Jerry Jr.
Mom is survived by her daughters Cheryl Meenach (Dave) of Yakima, WA and Janice Notland (Alan) of Kelowna, BC, her sister Bernice, her brothers in law Clayton and Doug, and many loved nieces and nephews on both sides of the family. She is loved and will be dearly missed.
Hannah will be remembered as being a cheerful, warm, and giving person.
The family would like to thank all of the wonderful staff who cared for mom so kindly on Cherry Lane at Tabor Home in Abbotsford and took care of her when we could not be there, including her Companion, Vi Wiens, from Compassion Care, who helped brighten her days with comfort and love.
While the family will gather together at a later date, there will be no Celebration of Life at this time. Those wishing to sign Hannah's online memorial book may do so at www.woodlawnfh-abbotsford.com
