George Alexander WATSON

George Alexander, late of Maplewood Home, Abbotsford, passed away on February 2, 2005 in his 90th year. He was born in Agassiz, BC, February 3, 1915 and in 1918 the family moved to Abbotsford, by horse and wagon, around Sumas Lake to a farm on Delair Rd., it was a two day journey. His father, Charlie Watson, farmed on the property which is at the Sumas Way exit to Abbotsford. The family home still stands at that location.

As a young man George logged up the coast of BC, worked in the cannery at Steveston, and worked at a mill in Straiton. He married Kathleen Harrison in 1946 and bought property on Munroe Rd. (now Marshall Rd. near corner of McMillan Rd.) and raised a family of eight children. He operated a small farm and worked as a waiter at the Atangard Hotel (Fraser Valley Inn) for many years.

In 1965 the family bought a farm at the corner of Nelles and Whatcom Roads where he farmed until 1974 when he retired. He travelled with his wife Kathleen around BC, to Europe, Australia and New Zealand.

George has been a resident of Maplewood Home for the past three years.

George is survived by his wife Kathleen Watson; children Kelly, Nancy, Tim, Andy, Jean, Sally, Matt, and Sam; brother Mel Watson; as well as many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on February 8, 2005, 2:00 pm from Cascade Community Church, 35190 Delair Rd., Abbotsford with Major Ron Cartmell officiating.

Cremation will be held at First Memorial.
