Geoffrey Horner

December 1934 - April 2017

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Geoffrey (Geoff) Horner. A long-time resident of Abbotsford and a former teacher, Geoff was known and loved by many in the community. Geoff was born in England and came to Canada as a young child. He grew up in Toronto and Victoria, and spent his lengthy teaching career in Abbotsford, including 25 years teaching Math and Science at Abbotsford Senior Secondary School until his retirement. Noted for his height, Geoff was a passionate teacher and an innovative educator, and his former students fondly remember his energetic lessons and commitment to teaching. (Remember: "YCSFNYDH: You Can't Study From Notes You Don't Have!") Geoff's passions and interests included travel, stamp collecting, tennis, lawn bowling, music & playing games, and he created deep roots and many friends in the community through those activities. But most of all, Geoff's deepest love was for his family. Geoff is survived and deeply missed by Judy, his beloved wife of almost 57 years, and his children Brenda (Ron) of Surrey, Nicola/Nicki (Paul) of Vancouver and Roger (Julie) of Ottawa, as well as his 6 grandchildren Carley & Ashley Henze, Shannon & Ian McLaren, & Erika & Natalie Horner. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 on Friday May 12, 2017 at Saint Matthew's Anglican Church (ANIC), 2087 McMillan Road, Abbotsford. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Geoff Horner Memorial Scholarship Fund at the Abbotsford Community Foundation at www.abbotsfordcf.org. 604-850-3755 or #204-2890 Garden St, Abbotsford BC V2T 4W7, or to the charity of your choice.
