Esther Claire Kathleen Clemo


Miss Esther Claire Kathleen Clemo of Mission, BC passed away on July 3, 2017. Claire was born in the Colony of Hong Kong in 1934. During World War 2 she lived with her mother and extended family in Northern Ireland. In 1954 Claire immigrated to Canada to live with her Aunt Clare in Mission, BC. She received her B.Ed in 1964 (UBC) and her M.Ed in 1991. Teaching was Claire’s passion and she spent 32 of the happiest years of her life teaching at Mission Central Elementary School. Claire was honoured with both the Queen’s Silver and Gold Jubilee Medals for teaching, and she became Mission’s Citizen of the Millennium in 2001. Claire was a Freeman of the City of Mission. Claire was predeceased by her beloved parents Bertram and Daisy Clemo, her Aunt, Clare Fleming, and more recently her brother, Roland. She is survived by a nephew and niece in N. Ireland and many cousins in the UK. Claire will be greatly missed by her friends and their families in the local area. They would like to thank all the many people who encouraged and supported Claire in these last very difficult years. To honour Claire’s wishes, a private service was held at Hatzic Cemetery on July 10, 2017. She was laid to rest with her mother. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Cedar Valley Mennonite Church 32860 Cherry Ave, Mission, BC on Tuesday, July 25, 2017 at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Claire’s memory to the Mission and Abbotsford Chapter of the Salvation Army.
