June 7, 1923 - August 7, 2021
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of our dear Aunty Emily Ruzycki (nee Gabinet) at 98 years young in Abbotsford, BC. She was born in Delph, AB in 1923 to Agnes & Martin Gabinet.
Emily was predeceased by her husband William (Uncle Bill) in 2003 as well as her siblings Mary, Caroline, Stella, Nick, Frances, John, Rose, Victoria, Peter and twin sister Helen, who passed away a few days after their birth. She is survived by her sisters Olga Kurylo and HelenWilchak of Lamont, AB.
She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her nephew Ken Ruzycki (Mary) and great niece Jennifer Ruzycki and many more nieces and nephews as well as the amazing staff and friends she made at Menno HomeWest 1 over the past five years.
Emily and Bill married in November 1946. They always worked together as a team from farming in Alberta to owning the York Hotel in Cranbrook, BC then to Abbotsford, BC in the early 60's owning the Park Hotel, then
moved on to owning the Davy Crockett Motel and then finally building the amazingly popular Uncle Bill's Pub in the 80's from which they finally retired from in the mid 90's after many years of hard work together.
Aunty Emily (as she was known by all) always loved to be around people and always insisted on feeding them. The hospitality industry was the perfect fit for her. She loved cooking and could always be found in the back room of Uncle Bill 's Pub making her famous perogies. She was known as the "Perogy Lady"and would promise to make them for anyone she came in contact with.
She loved to travel, play bingo, exercise her arms at the casino and feed anyone who showed up on her doorstep. She never sat down. Always in the kitchen cooking. Even on vacation in her favorite place, Birch Bay.
People would be outside enjoying the sun and food and she would be inside making sure there was always enough food for all.
Aunty Emily lived out her 98yrs with a lot of love and a lot of laughter and has left us all with so many happy memories. A small private service will be held in the Chapel at Menno HomeWest 1. She will be interred at the Skaro Shrine in Skaro, AB next to first and only love, Uncle Bill.
