WEBSTER, Elsie

1914-2009

On August 27, 2009, Elsie

Cecelia Webster (nee McDonald) passed away peacefully at Menno Home in Abbotsford, BC. Born January 20, 1914, she was predeceased by her parents Duncan and Elsie McDonald, eight brothers and one sister; and was also predeceased by her son Jim in February, 2000. She leaves behind a family that will love and miss her always - her son Bill (Vivian); daughter-in-law Sue; her grandchildren Troy, Tod, Brad, Nathan, Rachel, Karen and Kevin; her great grandchildren Jim, Chantal, Melynda and Isla and many nieces, nephews and special friends. Elsie graduated as an RN from St. Joseph Hospital (Bellingham) in 1937 and was awarded a gold medal for outstanding achievement. She was an OR nurse for over 30 years in the communities of Bellingham, Abbotsford and Oliver and loved the opportunity to help people and to work in a challenging environment. She was the 1st President of the Oliver Chapter of Registered Nurses, as well as President of the Abbotsford Catholic Women's League. She was a devoted mother and Nana with a great sense of humour, amazing homemaking skills, and a keen interest in the lives of her children and grandchildren. Her circle of friends was widespread and seemed only to grow. The family extends its sincere thanks to the extraordinary staff at Menno Home for the care and comfort they provided, and in particular, wishes to thank Elsie's niece Ann McDonald and her close friend Dorothy Ralston for their love and support. A funeral mass will be held on Friday, September 18th, 2009 at 1:00 pm at St. Ann's Catholic Church, 33333 Mayfair Avenue, Abbotsford. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in her memory to the Mennonite Benevolent Society, the Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Vancouver, or a charity of your choice.
