SAWATSKY (Loewen); Elizabeth

July 17, 1920 ~ December 1, 2016

Born in Rosenbach, South Russia, Elizabeth Sawatsky immigrated with her family to Speedwell, Saskatchewan in 1928. The family built a homestead on the stone-filled prairie where Elizabeth attended a one-room school. As a child she accepted the Lord Jesus as her personal saviour, and as a teenager was baptized. At grade 6 she stopped her education to work at home, but she was able to attend Bible school in Dalmaney, Saskatchewan. The family moved to Yarrow, BC in 1948 where Elizabeth continued her Bible education. She found work as a housekeeper and seasonal worker while also helping her parents at home. After her father died, Elizabeth provided care for her mother until her passing. She also worked in nursing homes as a care aide.  In 1970 she married Philip Loewen, and after his passing married George Sawatsky. Elizabeth enjoyed many volunteer activities in her church and community. Known for her outgoing personality, enthusiasm for life, and outspoken faith, Elizabeth made many friends at the Evergreen Village Condominium. She enjoyed traveling and sewing, and in her later years participated in all the activities at Tabor Court, her home for the past 3 years. Predeceased by husband Philip Loewen, husband George Sawatsky and step-son John Loewen, she is mourned by step-sons Ervin Sawatsky and Ed Loewen (Loretta) and daughter-in-law Daphne Loewen, nieces and nephews and many friends. Funeral Service will be held today, December 7th, at Clearbrook MB Church, 2719 Clearbrook Road, Abbotsford with burial to take place at Yarrow Cemetery at 2:00 pm.
