LOEWEN, Eleanor
Mother was born in Orenburg, Ukraine on Feb 6, 1917. She was the daughter of a single mother who gave her up for
adoption to Bernhard and Katherine Peters, who also adopted a son Aaron. Life became difficult during the Russian Revolution, so the family emigrated to Canada in 1925 when Eleanor was 8 years old. The family first settled in Glenbush, Sask. where Eleanor attended school till the 8th grade. Here mother came to faith and was baptized in the Mennonite Brethren Church. It was also here that she met love of her life, Abram Loewen, and they married on October 17, 1935. Our parents farmed in Glenbush for a short time, then moved to B.C. in 1937, settling on a small stump farm on Gladwin Road adjacent to the US border. From there they made a few more moves, finally settling on a dairy farm on Glenmore Road, Matsqui. In 1973, they retired to Kelowna where they enjoyed 17 happy years together. In 1990, our parents, who were now in failing health, moved back to Abbotsford, to be near their children. Our father died on Nov 27, 1995, and our sister Arlene died in June the following year. Our mother, who was a strong and practical woman, continued living on her own until April, 2003 when she moved into the Tabor Home where she resided until her death on April 25, 2010. She is mourned by her children, 31 grandchildren and 56 great grand-children. Her children, 4 daughters and 6 sons are: Frieda and Frank Peters, Marina and Henry Suderman, Katherine and John Konrad, Arlene (deceased) and Henry Haak, Ben and Sharon Loewen, Harry and Lorraine Loewen, Roy and Ruth Loewen. Marvin and Trish Loewen, Dale and Debbie Loewen, and Dan and
Vicky Loewen.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, April 29 at 1:00 pm at South Abbotsford MB Church, 32424 Huntingdon Road, Abbotsford.
