SZIGETY Edward Milton. Aug. 7, 1929 - Jan. 15, 2012. Born August 7th, 1929, on his family's original homestead near Mankota, Sask, Ed was the seventh son of parents Mary and Joseph Szigety. Ed moved to Abbotsford as a child, and remained here for the rest of his life. As a teenager he met his wife and lifelong companion Bertha (nee Whitman), to whom he was happily married for 61 years. After years working for Canada Post, Fraser Valley Milk, and Public Freightways, as well as running the pool hall at the Atangard Hotel, Ed remained busy in his retirement, known amongst family and friends as the man who could fix anything, and was always willing to help. His calm was only exceeded by his patience, and he lived by values of hard work, strong family, and a sense of humor that lasted until his final days. Ed passed quietly on a sunny Sunday afternoon, surrounded by his close family. He is survived by his wife Bertha, his son Darcy, daughter Lin, and the grand-children and great-grandchildren that he loved so much. Ed asked that there not be a funeral, though there will be a private memorial at a later date.
