Donald John McDONALD

Donald John, formerly of Vancouver, peacefully passed away in Abbotsford on September 16, 2005 after battling cancer for some years.

Don was born in Greenwood, BC, in 1917, but spent much of his life in Vancouver.

He was predeceased by his wife Marion and his daughter Shirley (Christie) and is survived by his grandson Robert Christie, great grandson Matthew, of Kelowna, and sister Elsie Cecilia (Webster) of Abbotsford, and many nieces and nephews.

He was also predeceased by his mother Elsie Cecilia and father Duncan John, and by his sister Mary Catherine and seven brothers, Harry Alexander, Duncan Fredrick, Joseph Edmund, James Edwin, Valentine Clair, Lawrence Augustine and Herbert Robert.

Don was an avid golfer, a sharp card player and loved sports, especially horse racing. He was also very active and successful in the mining industry, travelling and prospecting in many parts of the World. He was an early investor in many of British Columbia’s mines and well known in Vancouver’s Howe Street community.

In his retirement years Don was instrumental in raising funds for a number of non-profit organizations involved in medical research.

Don will be missed by his many business associates, friends and relatives.

In respecting Don’s wishes there will be no service. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory to the Worthington Extended Care Clinic, MSA Hospital, 2179 McCallum Road, Abbotsford, BC V2S 3P1, in consideration of the kindness of its staff to Don in his last months, would be appreciated.
