FROESE, Catherine
Catherine Froese was born on May 7, 1922 to Franz and Maria Isaak in the area of Urenberg in Russia. She was the fifth of ten children. In 1926 the family was able to leave Russia and move to Canada, where they settled near Niverville, MB. She was an avid student, and so it was a great privilege for her to be the first in her family to be allowed to go to high school. She spent 4 years at the private school in Gretna MB. After high school she went to normal school and earned her teaching certificate. It was while she was teaching in North Kildonan, MB that she met John Froese, recently returned from service overseas. On August 17, 1947 they were married and settled in North Kildonan while John worked on his theology degree. They served in Church related ministries in Saskatchewan, North Dakota, Minnesota, Ontario and British Columbia. In 1988 they retired and enjoyed helping in Churches and traveling. For many years she suffered the limitations of Alzheimer's disease. On Tuesday, January 5, 2010 she died peacefully, with her husband and daughters by her side. She leaves to mourn her passing, her husband John of over 62 years, son David (Joey), daughters Ruth (Murray) Peters, Dorothy (Richard) Friesen, Grace (Glen) Abrahams and their respective families which include 8 grandchildren and 3 great-grandsons. We owe a public word of thanks to all the wonderful staff of Maplewood House whose excellent care made the past two years so much easier to endure. We sorrow, but not as those who have no hope. A visitation will take place on Thursday, January 14, 2010 at 10:00 am at Henderson's Funeral Home, 34537 Marshall Road, Abbotsford, BC, with interment to follow at Maclure Cemetery. A Service of remembrance will take place at 1:30 pm at Bakerview Church, 2285 Clearbrook Road, Abbotsford, BC. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made in Catherine's memory to MBMSI.
