January 31, 2007

August “Auke” born Ternaard, Friesland February 7, 1920, passed away into the presence of the Lord on January 31, 2007 at MSA Hospital in Abbotsford. He was predeceased by his first wife Beatrice in 1972. He is survived by his loving wife Teresa, his sons John and Perry, and his three grandchildren Lorisa, Bill and Claire. Auke also leaves behind his surviving brothers and sisters, Riem VanWieren, Rieke Kingma, Dick Prins, Theis Prins, John Prins as well as numerous other relatives.

Having survived the occupation of the Netherlands in the underground while in his 20s, Auke spent the next 2½ years of his life serving his country in Indonesia. After this, he emigrated to Canada in 1952 and for 12 years he was employed by the Greater Vancouver Water Board. Following this came dairy farming in Deroche until 1982. His retirement years were spent in Abbotsford.

Our fondest memories of Auke are his love for the Lord and his zest for counting his blessings in life.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 3 at 1:00 pm at Gateway Community Christian Reform Church, 2884 Gladys Avenue (Abbotsford-Mission Hwy), Abbotsford with Rev. Bert Slofstra officiating. Burial will be held at Hazelwood Cemetery, Abbotsford at 11:00 am, also on February 3.
