Agnes (nee Rempel) FUNK

September 22, 2005

Agnes (nee Rempel) died peacefully on Thursday, September 22, 2005 at MSA Hospital with her husband and children by her side. Agnes was born on October 24, 1917 in Novo Omsk, Siberia. Her family immigrated to Canada in 1926, arriving in St. John, New Brunswick, welcomed by Canadians offering the best bologna sandwiches she had ever tasted. After three years in Winnipeg, the family moved further west to Abbotsford where they settled on a farm on Clearbrook Road. As a young woman Agnes moved to Vancouver where she did housework for others as well as working on the St. Paul’s Hospital pediatric ward. She met Abraham Funk in the summer of 1941 and they married on March 28, 1942. They bought a farm on Gladwin Rd, in Abbotsford, where they raised their six children. Abe and Agnes enjoyed 62 years of marriage. Agnes was intensely interested in the lives of her children, their spouses, 16 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. She was a lover of art and music, travel and reading. She was a woman of faith who prayed for each of her family members. She is remembered as an individualist with a dry sense of humour, and as a tenacious, forward-thinking woman who loved life. She will be missed by her husband Abe, daughters Irma (Will) and Charlotte (Rick), sons Bob (Irene), Dave (Shirl), Paul (Cheryl) and Tony (Marlene), her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, donations to MCC are greatly appreciated.
