Abbotsford Police will be recommending a charge of mischief against a man who used a baseball bat to smash windows, a car and other items on Wednesday at a business in the 31000 block of Peardonville Road.

Const. Ian MacDonald said police were called to the scene just before noon after an employee went on a rampage.

When police arrived, the man, in his 40s, dropped the bat but had to be subdued by officers.

MacDonald said it appeared the man had been using both the bat and his hands to damage a car parked in front of the building. He needed to be treated for cuts to his hands.

MacDonald said the man has worked at the business for many years and there wasn't an immediate apparent reason for his actions, such as a lay-off or firing.

He said police will be talking further to the employee and to his co-workers and family members to determine what might have triggered his behaviour.

The estimated cost of the damages is over $5,000, MacDonald said.
