Despite trailing 3986 to 2058 as of 9:35 p.m., Abbotsford West NDP candidate Preet Rai was not ready to concede.
“It’s early days,” he said, just after 9 p.m., as just a few polls were reporting a large lead for de Jong. “We will just wait and see how it goes. We will watch and hope for the best.”
Rai and his around 80 supporters are gathered at Gian’s Sweets on South Fraser Way.
“I’m feeling a little uncomfortable but we will accept any results,” said Baljinder Bains, the president of the NDP Abbotsford West riding. “It’s always difficult to beat the incumbent but still we will give them a good fight.”
