A 39-year-old Abbotsford woman was taken to hospital Monday night after her vehicle slammed into a concrete barrier on DeLair Road in Abbotsford.

Emergency crews – including Abbotsford Fire Rescue Service, Abbotsford Police and ambulance personnel – were called out at about 10 p.m. to the single-vehicle accident near Highway 1 and Sumas Way.

The vehicle hit the cement barrier in front of a hydro pole, doing a roll back onto its wheels, and crushing the roof.

The female driver – the sole occupant of the small four-door sedan – had to be extricated from the car by response crews.

Although it took about 15 minutes for them to cut apart the car to get her out, her injuries were reported to be non-life-threatening.

An air ambulance was initially called, but was later cancelled, and she was taken to Abbotsford Regional Hospital by ground transport.

Const. Ian MacDonald said it appears the collision was a combination of both driver error and speed. He said the driver indicated that she hadn't been in the area before, was unfamiliar with the road, and overcompensated when making a turn.

It was a busy day for emergency crews, with at least two other accidents to attend.
