UPDATE: Woman dies after medical emergency at homeless camp

Emergency crews were called to the Gladys Avenue camp in Abbotsford on Wednesday afternoon.

A woman who had an apparent heart attack at the homeless camp on Gladys Avenue on Wednesday died in hospital this afternoon (Thursday).

The woman, believed to be in her 40s, was taken off life support at about noon and died 10 minutes later, according to sources.

Crews were called to the homeless camp at about 2:15 p.m. yesterday and tended to the woman, who was in cardiac arrest, on the scene before transporting her to hospital in critical condition.

Abbotsford Police Const. Paul Walker said victim services and the Salvation Army were on scene to offer support to anyone who might have been traumatized by the incident.

The camp is located on Gladys Avenue just south of Essendene Avenue.
