Nine charges have now been formally laid against a 27-year-old Abbotsford man as the result of a crash involving a stolen motorcycle on Tuesday.

Jessie Leslie William Lunan has been charged with seven firearms charges, three counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking,  and one count of possession of stolen property.

The incident began when an Abbotsford Police officer saw a motorcycle driving erratically at about 7:50 a.m. Tuesday in the area of Beaver Street and Seal Way – located just south of Peardonville Road between Clearbrook Road and Emerson Street.

The officer watched as the driver crashed the motorcycle, attempted to pick up the bike and then started to push it.

The officer lost sight of the man and when he got to the crash location, the driver had fled and the bike had been abandoned. A helmet and fanny pack were left behind.

The motorcycle was confirmed to be stolen.

A patrol officer and K9 unit immediately began searching for the rider. The suspect, a prohibited driver who is well known to police, was located in the 2200 block of Beaver Street and taken into custody.

A subsequent search of the fanny pack resulted in the seizure of almost $1,100 cash, a loaded pistol, street drugs (including heroin, crack cocaine, cocaine, methamphetamine and unknown drugs), and identification of the arrested man. Police say the approximate street value of the drugs seized is $10,000.

According to the provincial court database, Lunan has numerous previous convictions., including for driving while prohibited, possession for the purpose of trafficking, breach of probation and bail, assault, possession of an unauthorized firearm and drug trafficking.

In February of this year, he was charged with three counts of driving while prohibited, and those charges are still before the courts.
