Abbotsford Police say a 37-year-old man charged with sexually assaulting a teenage girl has been arrested.

Abbotsford Police and Surrey RCMP arrested Jason Stanley Whitford Tuesday night, according to a press release issued this morning.

Yesterday, police had issued a call for information for Whitford’s location after charges for drug trafficking and sexual assault were sworn against the man.

Abbotsford Police are seeking assistance in trying to locate a 37-year-old man wanted for four sexual offences involving a 13-year-old girl.

Charges were sworn Monday in Abbotsford provincial court against Jason Stanley Whitford of no fixed address, but police have not been able to locate him.

The alleged offences occurred March 10 and 27 in Abbotsford.

Whitford has been charged with sexual interference, invitation to sexual touching, exposure, sexual assault, and trafficking in methamphetamine.

Const. Ian MacDonald said the drug charge is connected to the other offences.

Whitford has an extensive criminal record, including prior convictions for offences such as assault, breaching his probation, resisting a police officer, mischief, possession of stolen property, drug possession and theft.

He is described as Caucasian, six feet tall and 220 pounds. He is known to frequent various cities in the lower Fraser Valley.

Anyone who sees him is asked to immediately call 911 and not approach or confront him.
