Charges have been laid against a Chilliwack man who was arrested Sunday for allegedly carrying a loaded rifle and ammunition through Abbotsford Airport.
James Thomas Kreitewolf, 28, has been charged with three weapons offences, causing a disturbance and possession of cocaine.
Const. Ian MacDonald said a man had been at a rental car company in the airport at about 3:30 p.m. when a staff member noticed he was carrying a rifle bag.
The employee alerted airport management, who then called police.
Abbotsford Police Department patrol division officers were immediately dispatched to the airport and located the man in a washroom.
He was taken into custody without incident. Located in his possession was a loaded SKS rifle and ammunition, MacDonald said.
He said it doesn’t appear that the man was preparing to catch a flight but may have been in the process of moving his possessions from one vehicle to another that he had been planning to rent.
“Bringing a loaded rifle into an international airport – not a wise choice,” MacDonald said.
He said police ensured nobody entered the building while police tracked down the suspect, which took about three minutes.
Kreitewolf is also appearing before the courts on theft and mischief charges laid in mid-August related to an offence on July 31 in Abbotsford, according to the provincial court database.
