A 63-year-old Abbotsford man is in stable condition in hospital after being airlifted from the scene of a two-car collision Tuesday afternoon.

The man suffered serious lower-body and chest injuries after the Toyota Corolla he was driving was involved in a head-on crash with a GMC pickup at about 3 p.m. on Farmer Road near McKenzie Road.

Abbotsford Police Const. Ian MacDonald said the collision occurred at the crest of a hill. Investigators are still trying to determine in which direction each driver was headed and who crossed the centre line.

"By the time we arrived on scene ... both vehicles were strewn," MacDonald said.

The driver of the pickup, a 69-year-old Chilliwack man, was transported to hospital by ambulance. He is recovering from similar, but less serious, injuries as the other driver.

MacDonald said both men had to be extricated from their vehicles.

Police are asking for any witnesses to call the Abbotsford Police Department at 604-859-5225.
