A five-storey apartment building on Mt. Waddington Avenue in Abbotsford will consist of 94 units.

Two new apartment buildings with a total of 166 units are slated for Abbotsford on Tims Avenue and Mt. Waddington Avenue near city hall.

City council gave the first three readings Monday (Sept. 27) to bylaw amendments, including rezoning, that will allow the projects to proceed, with final adoption expected soon.

The six-storey development at 32129 and 32143/32145 Tims Avenue is 72 units – seven studio units, 35 one-bedroom suites and 30 two-bedroom.

The units range in size from 400 to 851 square feet.

The applicant, Flat Architecture Inc., will be required to contribute $10,000 towards a full traffic signal at George Ferguson Way and Tims Street.

The company must also ensure the units are provided as rentals for at least 10 years.

The other building is a five-storey development at 32137, 32147 and 32157 Mt. Waddington Ave. and consists of 94 units – 63 two-bedroom suites (including one-bedroom units with a den) and 31 three-bedroom units (including two-bedroom suites with a den).

The applicant for that project is a registered company, which must contribute $15,000 to the traffic light at George Ferguson and Tims.

Council approved the first three readings of both projects with no discussion. There were no submissions for a public hearing that would have followed the first two readings.
