The Abbotsford Police Department (APD) recently arrested three men who they say were in possession of fentanyl that had a potency of four times that which is considered lethal.

Police said the three have ties to the Lower Mainland gang conflict and were arrested after a nine-month fentanyl-trafficking investigation.

The APD said 5.5 ounces of fentanyl was seized from the arrested men, and investigators served two search warrants at residences in Abbotsford.

Additional fentanyl trafficking evidence was located along with an illegal online cannabis retail business and the seizure of $44,000 worth of cannabis products, police said.

The seized fentanyl was then analyzed.

Charges are pending against the three men, all in their 20s. They are not being named until charges are formally laid.

APD Staff Sgt. Dan Culbertson of the criminal investigation branch said the department is continuing to strive to make Abbotsford “the safest city in B.C.” through the targeted enforcement of gangs and their criminal activities.

“These arrests and fentanyl seizures within the community are an important step in addressing the epidemic of fatal drug overdoses during the COVID-19 pandemic,” he said.
