Toddler found alone after two arrested in Abbotsford drug bust

A 2 1/2-year-old child was discovered alone in an apartment last night (Thursday) after Abbotsford Police arrested a man and a woman associated with the residence.

Const. Ian MacDonald said the 25-year-old man, who was formerly connected to the Duhre Group, was arrested leaving an underground parking lot in the 32700 block of George Ferguson Way at about 10 p.m. Police had been planning to issue a warrant to search his residence.

Moments later, his 20-year-old girlfriend was taken into custody in a hallway of the apartment building. Her young child was found alone in the suite, and was turned over to the Ministry of Children and Family Development.

The search of the residence turned up crack cocaine, a small amount of heroin, cellphones and cash. The couple will be facing drug charges.

MacDonald said the investigation continues into people who have splintered away from the Duhre Group.

In December, police arrested four men who they said had broken away from the gang and were forming their own group to take over drug supply lines established by the Duhre organization.
