The Abbotsford Police Department (APD) has released the next poster in its road-safety campaign.

Part two in the "Newton Says" series depicts a passenger vehicle with its back end demolished.

Written across the photo is the note "Newton says: A body at rest stays at rest until … you plow into the back of a car stopped for the red light."

Const. Ian MacDonald said the two women in the vehicle pictured suffered injuries when a large van crashed into them after they had stopped to wait at a red light.

The APD has identified road safety as its top priority for 2013. MacDonald said that during the month of February, the APD and other police agencies will step up their enforcement on distracted driving.

"Despite warnings and plenty of media attention about the use of cellular phones and electronic devices while driving, the practice remains a far too common sight on our roads," he said.

The series, which began last month with the release of  a poster focused on distracted driving, is focused on the slogan "Stay Alert, Slow Down, Think Safe."
