Abbotsford Police are warning residents about a woman going door-to-door asking for money.
Const. Ian MacDonald said it looks like an old scam has returned in a slightly different form.
According to MacDonald, last summer there was a rash of complaints from people saying they were being approached by a women in parking lots near bank machines. The woman was in her early 30s and said she had a "crisis involving her child." She then asked people for money.
On Monday, MacDonald said several new reports were received from a residential area in East Abbotsford regarding a woman, described to be 25-30, going door-to-door asking for money. She told people she had a "medical crisis" involving her child.
"In one instance she actually had a cellphone to her ear and she was pretending to be in a live conversation with the doctor," explained MacDonald.
He said she claimed her child, who was not with her, had been diagnosed with pneumonia.
She said she needed money to get medication for the child.
"Unfortunately we had a couple of people who did part with their money and then observed her quickly flee into a dark coloured sedan where there was somebody else waiting and boom they're gone."
MacDonald said it is a scam, there is no sick child and the public should be aware.
